Chiro Spotlight: Dr. Abby Sirovica (She/Her)

I’m Dr. Abby! Living a holistic, healthy lifestyle has been a growing and continual passion of mine. When people ask me why I became a chiropractor I tell them “chiropractic chose me.” I absolutely love what I do and am so grateful to be able to show others what I have experienced through wellness and chiropractic. Our office is all about showing up for our practice members with congruency and authenticity; we truly want you to feel at home and be able to have chiropractic as a part of your life.

Along with being a chiropractor, I am a mom to two wild, intelligent, kind young girls and enjoy lifting, biohacking and natural lifestyles hacks!

I graduated with a bachelors in Biology valedictorian from East Carolina University. After undergrad, I studied at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa graduating Cum Laude. Post-doctorate I have done my pregnancy and pediatric courses and certifications through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). After graduation I was lucky enough to serve the Palo Alto, CA area for three years before coming home to Battle Creek with a vision for Grassroots.

Can you share your personal journey through chiropractic? How did you become interested and what motivated you to pursue it as a career?

My journey to chiropractic began when I realized there had to be more to health than just medication and treating symptoms. The conventional approach of going to a doctor and getting medication to fix problems didn't align with my growing understanding of true wellness. Through practicing yoga with a mentor, I discovered the profound truth that our bodies heal from the inside out, and when given the right environment, they naturally move toward health and healing.

This revelation completely shifted my perspective and led me to focus on studying not what causes disease, but what creates wellness and allows people to thrive. I became fascinated with understanding what causes a person to get well, what enables them to regenerate, and what creates the conditions for natural healing. The answers to these questions consistently pointed me toward chiropractic care, where I found an approach that aligned perfectly with my evolving health philosophy.

I'm a "burn the ships" type of person, so once I had clarity about this path, I went all in—though I always say I didn't choose chiropractic, it chose me. Looking back, it's amazing to see how this decision transformed every aspect of my life. Chiropractic has blessed me beyond just a career, bringing me closer to God, connecting me with incredible people, and providing experiences that have enriched my life in ways I never could have imagined. It's become clear that helping others find healing through this natural, holistic approach isn't just my profession—it's my calling.

How has your diverse perspective contributed to your journey in chiropractic? In what ways has your unique background influenced your approach to patient care, community engagement, or professional growth?

My journey in healthcare began as a patient, experiencing the frustrations of chronic conditions like eczema and being told I'd either have to "live with it" or depend on medication indefinitely. These personal health challenges sparked something in me - a refusal to accept the status quo and a determination to find alternative solutions. This firsthand experience of seeking answers beyond conventional medicine now deeply influences how I connect with and advocate for my patients, understanding their frustration and their hope for real, lasting solutions.

As my practice has evolved, I've discovered that I'm fundamentally an entrepreneur who happens to be a chiropractor, and this unique perspective has shaped everything about how I approach healthcare and community building. I'm passionate about creating something bigger than myself, whether that's developing community programs, building strong teams, or helping others identify and thrive in their "genius zones." This entrepreneurial mindset has led me to believe that healthcare isn't just about individual treatment - it's about creating sustainable systems and communities that support holistic wellness.

My professional journey has expanded beyond traditional patient care into mentoring other chiropractors in building sustainable practices. Being a "numbers person," I see patterns and solutions where others might see overwhelming business challenges. I believe numbers are God's way of speaking to me, and I use this gift to help other healers who are amazing at patient care but struggle with the business aspects of their practice. This has become especially important in our field of pregnancy and pediatric care, where practitioners often face emotional burnout while trying to balance their passion for healing with running a successful business. My path continues to evolve through podcasting, speaking engagements, investing, real estate, and helping other chiropractors create thriving practices that serve their communities without sacrificing their own wellbeing.

Could you elaborate on any hardships you have had to overcome in your chiropractic career? How did you navigate these difficulties and what lessons did you learn along the way?

One of the most transformative challenges in my career came when God launched me into a new chapter through divorce, suddenly placing me in the position of being both a solo parent to my two little girls and a new business owner. While I now recognize that being an entrepreneur is deeply embedded in my soul, at the time, business ownership wasn't part of my planned path - alone. I was simultaneously navigating single parenthood, establishing my practice, and rediscovering my identity - all while holding onto my vision of making a significant impact in the chiropractic profession.

This challenging period emerged from my inability to find a practice that aligned with my vision of how chiropractic care should be delivered. I was determined to create a cash-only office that made care accessible on a daily basis, similar to how I utilized it for myself and my daughters. This was a revolutionary concept in Michigan at the time, but I knew deep in my heart that this approach to care - making it both affordable and readily available - was essential to truly serving our community in the way they deserved.

Looking back, I can see how those seemingly lonely and frightening times were actually God's way of forging me into the person I needed to become. These challenges cultivated a level of grit and resilience that has become foundational to my success. While I feel I'm not even halfway to reaching my full potential and the impact I believe God has in store for me, each day I wake up committed to doing better - for myself, my family, my Grassroots doctors, my team, my community, and my profession. Those early hardships weren't just obstacles to overcome; they were the very experiences that equipped me with the strength and vision to create something truly transformative in healthcare.

As a trailblazer in the field, what advice would you give to the next generation of chiropractors, especially those from diverse backgrounds, who are just beginning their journey? Are there any key principles or insights you have acquired that you would like to share?

My foremost advice to aspiring chiropractors is to intentionally surround yourself with people who are already doing what you dream of doing, especially when those dreams seem impossible. You need to actively seek out those individuals who provide that crucial glimmer of hope and proof that your aspirations are achievable. I've learned that we are truly only limited by our beliefs, and the journey to making something possible begins the moment we break free from the mindset that it isn't.

This truth is powerfully illustrated in my own life through my partner, a black doctor who represents just 5% of doctors in the United States that are black. Despite these odds, he not only built a six-figure business while in graduate school and working with the NFL, but he's now creating waves of change that will impact generations of black doctors to come. Similarly, as a female business owner, I'm part of the mere 30% of businesses owned by women. These statistics underscore why collaboration, not competition, is crucial at the top. We share our journeys and insights because we understand that real change happens when we work together rather than against each other.

We maintain an unwavering focus on making the world a better place, wearing complete blinders to naysayers or those who say it can't be done. Every day, we pray that our success will unlock possibilities for others and contribute to a wave of change that will impact generations to come. This isn't just about building a legacy for ourselves and our families - it's about transforming our professions and creating lasting change through collaboration and shared vision. The key is to remain laser-focused on your mission while lifting others up along the way, understanding that true success isn't just about individual achievement but about creating pathways for others to follow.
